The main advantage of 3D rendered graphics over photography is its flexibility. Once modeled and set up, it is fairly easy and fast to render out different designs of the same product - as you can see with the different colored fabrics in the above example. No need to mark positions of the camera, lights and the asset itself, no cumbersome manual masking and matching different photographs - the results match perfectly and you get an alpha channel for masking with every picture. Wile the initial setup takes more time and therefore is more cost intensive compared to traditional photography, the time saving advantages come to play when you have to shoot different designs or many variations. Also coming back after a few weeks and making changes or additions is a lot easier.
